Hi Catherine nice to welcome you to this discussion board.
My alias may lead you to think that I live in South Africa but that isn't true.
I was born there in 1961 but my parents returned to England a year later.
I visited South Africa in 2002 for my honeymoon with my second wife (alias 'Bubble').
We stayed in Kruger National park for a week then spent 10 days in Cape Town staying at the 5 star Table Bay Hotel mostly but we also stayed at The Nelson for a couple of nights.
You have a beautiful country there and if we can afford it we would love to retire to the Cape Town area one day.
Anyway as I said, it's nice to have you on board.
All the best,
South African Beef and Bubble

I was 3rd generation.
1st generation (my grandmother) was rather week in d troof, 2nd gen (my mum and dad) are the strongest most dedicated most gullible witnesses ever who take everything to extremes (no naughty tv programs, never visited a pub - why would we want to join worldly people and drink alcohol with them?, would rather go to prison than be on a jury!!! etc etc), 3rd generation (my brother) as strong and mad as them, and then there was the little brother me - bought up in d troof, baptised at 18, ministerial servant for ages, gave public talks, group study etc etc - now totally free of it all and loving and I mean REALLY LOVING every minute of it.
Just wish I wasn't hoodwinked for the first 40 years of my life. Wish i left in the '70s. I would have had so much fun. -

Better off Poor in UK than Rich in US!
by Seeker4 innational public radio this morning had a story about a study of middle-aged (55-64 yo) whites in the uk compred to the us.
they were shocked at the results.
the study was done to try to find out the effects of poverty on health , which is why they just studied whites, to eliminate the effects of race.

I notice on my trips to the US that they are either obssessed with being super-fit or just seem to have given up and are grossly overweight. Unfortunately the latter seems to apply to most Americans.
In the UK most people don't go to excess in anything - oh except the drinking and fighting friday/saturday culture found in every town and city in the country.
Also when following our football teams in Europe the English really go to town and have to drink and drink and drink like no one else in the world and they have to insult everyone.
I think that is partly caused by our inner believe that we are still a world power and that Brittania rules the waves.
Just realised that I'm going off the thread a bit - better shut up now! -

by jw ino timothy, guard what is laid up in trust with you, turning away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from the contradictions of the falsely called knowledge.

interesting that you mentioned the Daily Mail.
I remember one self righteous Elder we had always used to quote from that paper, usually on some article on 'morals' or teenage pregnancies or something along those lines. Didn't he realise that as a part of big business the newspaper must be under satans control and he really should not be using it to support his own views? -

Congrats on finally being FREE!
It sometimes is hard especially with being shunned by family but overall I must say that I have never ever been happier than I am now!
P.S VM44 - don't get upset about paying over $3 for gas - here in England we pay well over $6.50 per gallon! -

Kids referring to older ones as AUNTIE or UNCLE
by lowden ini don't know about other patrs of the world but in the uk, youngsters were expected to refer to older ones as auntie or uncle.
i publicly told my children not to do this, i thought it was reeeeally creepy.
my main reason for this is that i think it creates trust in people that are strangers to the family unit and for some kids, it's part of the grooming process for molestation.

I remember my mum telling me to call everyone in the congregation either "brother" or "sister" because she said that "Uncle" or 'Auntie" wasn't correct as they were not my actual relatives - seems a bit strange compared to others on this thread.
I was to call everyone 'brother' or 'sister' because of course everyone was my SPIRITUAL brother or sister! -

I think mine is 119 which I thought was quite good but is apparently just above average.
I wonder what the IQ of an average dub is?
I wonder if their IQ goes down after many years of being told what to think?
I think mine did - I'm sure that I would have been accepted into Mensa if it wasn't for being a Witto for so long!!!!!! -

HYPOCRITICAL QUOTES FROM THE MAY 15TH WT....
by Mary inthis is just unreal.......i cannot believe they have the nerve to actually put this stuff into print, but here's the proof that there's no limit to their insanity-----or their hypocrisy:
page 26: "..a preoccupation with the future...prevents us from seeing the present as it is" noted one american philospher.......even jehovah's worshippers are not immune tot his pattern of thinking.
(gee, i can't imagine why) what if we become so preoccupied with future physical blessings that we are blind to our present-day spiritual blessings?........we could easily become discouraged and feel 'sick at heart because our expectations have been post-poned beyond what we imagined (or, what we were promised)........we could develop a complaining attitude.

In response to Gills comments, I remember just a few years back that it seemed strange that the CO's wife would rarely come to the meetings. Also her hubby was extremely forgetful. One day I had to pick him up from his (free) apartment at the KH to take him to the Circuit Assembly. He was acting very strange, all over the place: couldn't find his keys to lock up, then realised he had forgotten something else and was not acting how you would expect a 'normal' CO to act.
Anyhow it turns out that both of them were alcoholics - I mean REAL BAD alocholics. He was forced to step down. -

I have to agree that looking at this from a neutral standpoint, IW seems to have ulterior motives.
It would be extremely hipocritical for the WTS to tell all Jehovah's Witnesses to not look on websites such as these and then for certain select members to be allowed to do it and also with a view to using the material to support their side in a lawsuit.
You can't get more two faced than that.
What the WTS needs to do is to clarify their policy on blood in minute detail so everybody knows where they are coming from. At the moment it is so ambiguous that people are sadly dying when they needn't be.
If only the ordinary publishers actually knew what devious things go on at WT headquarters. -

Row over JW HQ
by Gill in.
this kh is being opposed by the local residents because parking is limited and they expect their street to be overcrowded at meeting times.. http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/content/news/story.aspx?brand=enonline&category=news&tbrand=enonline&tcategory=news&itemid=noed15%20apr%202006%2011%3a30%3a56%3a970

I have been to the Norwich football ground for the convention many many times.
My local congragation built a hall without enough parking provision and the number of continually upset neighbours was unbelievable!
We had lots of special needs talks about considerate parking but often there would have to be an announcement asking bro so and so to move his car because it was blocking somebodys drive. How unchristian.
The local Wittos were more pleased that they had their own hall than worrying about their worldy neighbours.
So glad I am no part of their world now.
